I have been in the Travel Industry for 40 years, for the last nineteen years I have worked in high-end luxury travel, and have concentrated the last thirteen of those years on selling luxury cruises.
One of my favourite destinations to cruise is the absolutely stunning Amalfi Coast, Positano is a real gem, and the Limoncello as a refreshing spritzer is not bad either!

A luxury cruise offers refined relaxation, very personalised service due to the crew to Guest ratio, the crew have time to make you feel extra special, just the little extras that they do for you, and by addressing you by name, and perhaps remembering your favourite tipple. Also space to guest ratio, gives that feeling of luxury. Luxury ships are smaller so can get into many small ports that bigger mainstream ships cannot, so offer a more immersive experience away from large crowds. Then there's the fine dining, champagne and premium drinks that are included.
An Alaskan cruise is very high on my bucket list due to my love of the natural untamed beauty, and of course the wildlife. Ideally with an add-on on the Rocky Mountaineer.
My passport, insurance documents and tickets go without saying, but also a copy of any prescription medicine. A small rucksack and on a cruise a waistband expander!
1) The most important thing to do when booking particularly your first cruise is to speak to a Luxury Cruise advisor, they will listen to your needs, as every guest has a different idea of luxury and their own requirements.
2) It is absolutely paramount to choose your cruise line carefully so that you have the most wonderful cruise and take away from it lasting memories. Sometimes you will be itinerary driven so this might narrow down your cruise line choices.
